GUIDELINES FOR THE COMPETITION:
1.
Consider that you are an investment analyst and
you have been given an assignment of analyzing outbound acquisitions by Indian
companies.
2.
Now take up any case of an Indian company having
acquired controlling stake in a foreign company (outbound acquisition by Indian
company). Conduct an independent research and analyze the case.
3.
While taking such a study avoid much talked
about cases of Tata Corus, Hindalco Novelis.
4.
An illustrative list of outbound acquisitions by
Indian companies has been given in the annexure.(For annexure please download the Mulyankan 2012 brochure above)
5.
You are required to carry out your own research,
examine and analyze the case and prepare a detailed report on various aspects
which may include:
i. How did the company zero in on the target
foreign company?
ii. Objectives of Indian company for such outbound
acquisition.
iii. Valuation
of Target Company. ( Consideration )
iv.
Due diligence, structuring and legal issues
involved in examination of such outbound acquisitions.
v.
Post acquisition financial performance of both
acquiring as well as the target company and comparing the same with
pre-acquisition performance.
vi. Synergistic benefits realized by both the
acquiring as well as target company.
vii. Crossed cultural issues in Integration.

Hence while selecting your case study, please
ensure that you select such a case where at least one balance sheet post
acquisition is available to render comparative analysis possible.
7.
Overall limit of your study paper should not
exceed 25 pages ( Please refer rules of the competition in this regard)
RULES FOR COMPETITION
1)
The Competition
is open only for Second (II)/ Final Year Finance students of Management
Institutes under the Full – time Program.
2)
A team will comprise of minimum 2 members and
maximum of 3 members and members must be from the same institute.
3)
Maximum 3 teams can participate from the same
institute. A student can neither be a part of more than one team, nor can a
team make more than one report submission.
4)
Report
should not exceed 25 pages –single side ( plus 1 Cover Page )
[ A4 size paper, Font
Style : Times New Roman, Font Size : 12 ,Justified , Line Spacing: 1.5, Pages
serially numbered. ]
5)
To maintain the anonymity of the participants as
well as the institute in the screening process, the names or any other details
of the team members or the Institute shall be mentioned on the cover page only. Please ensure that any such
details are not revealed on any other page. In case such identity is revealed
on any page such entry will be disqualified.
6)
A soft copy of the report has to be mailed on
the nldalmia.mulyankan@gmail.com latest by 31st August, 2012 by 6.00 p.m. The printed copy of the report
should reach the institute latest by 2nd
September, 2012 by 6.00 p.m.
Institute will not be responsible for any postal/courier delay.
7)
The report should bear a rubber stamp of your
institute only on the cover page of the report. Also enclose photo copies of
identity cards of the participating team members along with the report.
8)
A panel of independent Judges will do
preliminary evaluation and TOP FIVE (5) teams will be selected for Finals. Selected
teams will be intimated by 1st October 2012. Final presentation will
have to be made with the help of Power point slides on 12th October 2012 at our
Institute Auditorium.
9)
A code number will be allotted to each
participating team at the time of report submission to maintain anonymity of
participants.
10)
The final presentation should not exceed 20
minutes
- At the end of 15 minutes a warning bell shall be given
- At the end of 20 minutes the final bell shall be given, indicating the participants to
terminate their presentations at that moment.

This
shall be followed by a 10 minutes Q & A round by the panel.
11) The Final presentation will be judged by
independent, eminent professionals. Identity of the teams will not be revealed
to the judges Violation of any of the above
rules will lead to an immediate disqualification of the team, without any further
discussion.
12)
The decision of the judges shall be final.
NOTE: Accommodation facility will be provided to short listed teams coming from outstation cities on the date of the competition.
